The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s annual business awards gala that was supposed to run this fall is being postponed to Feb. 13, 2020.
At Tuesday evening’s council meeting, Chamber of Commerce board member Coun. Michael Behan said the awards event will still be held at the Copper River Inn and seven businesses have already been confirmed as sponsors.
“Nomination forms will be posted onto the chamber’s website soon and I certainly encourage local residents to nominate deserving businesses and owners for their various awards,” Coun. Behan remarked.
“This has been the Academy Awards for the local business community since 1997 and a great opportunity to salute businesses and individuals who play such a crucial role in spearheading the economic prosperity and future of our town and district.”
Coun. Behan said the annual Business and Community Expo was also discussed at the Chamber’s most recent meeting and it was noted that attendance and revenue were down considerably this year.
The Chamber may look at holding it once every two years now, instead of annually, he added.
Meanwhile, this year’s “Quest for the Best” that was held on July 19 at the Sorting Gap Marina in conjunction with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship, was another success with an estimated 1,200 people attending, according to Coun. Behan.
“I know Mayor June and I attended as volunteers to help out and it was a great night,” he remarked.
“I want to give kudos to Jennifer [Soderholm] and all the Chamber volunteers for staging another great show.”
The Chamber’s next general membership meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous.
