The annual fundraiser book sale at Revco Carpet continues today (April 7) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and again Saturday, April 8 from 9 a.m.-noon. The public can drop by the store (950 Fifth St. W.), fill a bag with books, and then make a donation. Proceeds will go to support the Borderland Judo Club and local Alzheimer Society.

The Fort Frances Covenant Church (1027 King's Highway) will hold a spring supper today (April 7) at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to attend. For more info, call 274-1873.

A fundraiser book sale will be held Saturday, April 8 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and again on Sunday, April 9 from noon-5 p.m. at The Bargain Shop. All proceeds to support Easter Seals locally.

Guthrie United Church in Devlin will hold a tea and bake sale Saturday, April 8 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Devlin Hall (draws will begin at 3 p.m.) There also will be desserts, a penny table and bake table, and a cookie walk. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for kids aged six-12 (those five and under are free).

A fundraiser for the Bear Clan Patrol (Fort Frances chapter) will be held Saturday, April 8 at Carl's Eatery, with seatings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The cost is $45/person, with $10 from every meal donated to the Bear Clan Patrol. Advance tickets available at Carl's and Curvy Chick. There will be great prizes, too.

The Border Skating Club's 45th-annual ice show, this year entitled “Vacation Destination,” will be held Saturday, April 8 at 7 p.m. and again Sunday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors (65+) , with those three and under being free. Weekend passes also are available for $20 each. Tickets available at the front desk at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Town council will hold its next regular meeting Monday, April 10 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

The Rainy River Feeder Finance Co-op and Rainy River Breeder Finance Co-op will hold their annual meeting Monday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chapple rec centre.

The PARO Centre for Women's Enterprises will hold a meet-and-greet Tuesday, April 11 at 4:30 p.m. at the Rainy River Future Development Corp. office (located upstairs at the credit union). “Canada's Greatest Explorer" Josh Henry will be sharing his stories and photos on Wednesday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library as part of "The Human Experience Series." Admission is free, with refreshments provided by the "Friends of the Library.”

A workshop on making Easter wreaths, led by Jen Coats, will be held next Wednesday (April 12) from 6-9 p.m. at the museum. The fee is $35/person. Call the museum (274-7891) for more details or to register.

The annual “Easter Market,” featuring Lowey's Greenhouse and Market Garden, will be held Saturday, April 15 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Copper River Inn. More than 30 vendors will be on hand.

The annual “Easter Egg-Stravaganza,” hosted by the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club, will be held Saturday, April 15 starting at 11 a.m. on Scott Street. Pick up a map at the museum courtyard and go from business to business to collect candy. There also will be prizes, photos with the Easter Bunny at Lidkea Optometry (bring your own camera), and more! Donations of non-perishable food items also will be accepted.

“Bail or Jail,” presented by the Fort Frances Voyageurs Lions Club, will be held Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fort Frances Curling Club in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce's trade show.

An open studio for children and families (drama and art), led by Lauren Hyatt, will be held Saturday, April 22 from 1-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances Museum. Admission is $2/child or $5/families.

“A Cinderella Tea,” presented by St. John's Anglican Church, will be held Saturday, April 22 from 2-4 p.m. There will be fancy sandwiches and dainties, as well as a bake table and gift basket draw, along with special guests Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children, with those three and under being free.

The La Vallee Fire Fighters Association will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, April 22 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Devlin Hall. Tickets, which are available from any La Vallee firefighter, as well as at the municipal office, cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Funds raised will go to the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus.

The Fort Frances Choraliers will perform their Easter cantata, this year entitled “Champion of Love,” on Sunday, April 23 at 3 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship and again on Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls. The concerts will be fundraisers for a new sound system for the group and free-will offerings will be accepted. A bake sale also will be held in conjunction with the cantata performance here.

The Fine Line Art Gallery's annual spring art show, this year entitled “Then and Now,” will open Friday, April 28 from noon-7 p.m. Artists are urged to submit their work by April 17, with the entry fee being $10. For more info, call 274-2242 or drop by 529 Mowat Ave.

Fort High presents the musical “Mary Poppins” on May 3-6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre (doors open at 6:30). Tickets cost $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors, which are available at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts and at the door.

The annual spring ladies' luncheon, hosted by the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, will be held Sunday, May 7 from noon-2 p.m. in the Robert Moore School gym. This year's theme is “Birthday Bash," and the event will include a buffet lunch, dessert, a silent auction, draws, prizes, and a special "Birthday Boutique.” Tickets cost $20 each, which are available at McTaggarts and From the Grind Up, or by calling 274-4803 (reservations for tables of eight also are available). All funds raised will go towards a Moleculite device.

Ongoing Spanish classes (90 minutes long) will run every Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the VALA office at 241C Second St. E. (old high school). These are open to anyone.
