A monster performance by senior Muskie Kobi Ward highlighted Fort Frances Men's Basketball League action Tuesday night at the Fort High gym.
In an intense—and at times testy—game, Ward scored 31 points to lead the Muskies to a 74-56 victory over the BDO Ballerz.
The black-and-gold jumped out to a large lead early, then kept the pressure on the rest of the way.
Wally Tabash had a team-high 25 for BDO.
The second game of the night saw the RBC Lions pull away in the second half for a 51-33 win over Arctic Cat.
Both teams came out of the gate sluggish, with RBC holding a slim 10-4 lead after 10 minutes.
But Arctic Cat fought back hard—grabbing a 13-12 lead at one point before trailing by just three points at halftime to the highest-scoring squad in the six-team league.
Sam Soderman led the Lions with 27 points while Philip Armstrong ended the game strong with consecutive “treys” to finish with 13.
Dustin Eyolfson was a force down low all night for Arctic Cat, ending up with a season-high 14 points in a losing cause.
The final game featured Sunset Landscaping take on the Revco Renegades.
After being down 39-20 at the half, Revco fought to within 10 points but it was too little, too late as Sunset wound up with a 57-44 triumph.
In what seems to be a recurring theme, the Renegades once again gave their opponents a huge lead to start the game, then found themselves trying to claw back into it.
Sunset's Josh Mastin hurt himself at the beginning of the game but still managed to net 28 points.
Jason Jones added a season- and career-high 10 on some nice drives and smooth shots.
John Sivonen, meanwhile, led Revco with 16 points while Mike Canfield added a season-high 11.
Six weeks into the season, RBC leads the league with a perfect 6-0 record.
Sunset Landscaping occupies second place (5-1), followed by BDO, Revco, and the Muskies (2-4).
Arctic Cat remains in the basement (1-5).
The league runs each Tuesday at the Fort High gym starting at 6:40 p.m.
