Muskie girls romp over Broncos

Category:

Tatum Glowasky and Issy Taylor each notched hat tricks to help pace the Muskie girls' hockey team to a 10-0 rout of the Kenora Broncos on Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.

The pair also recorded two assists apiece as part of a five-point night while birthday girl Jill Calder scored twice and added a helper as the Muskies improved to 6-6-0-1 in NorWOSSA play.

With the win, Fort High swept the four-game regular-season series against the Broncos (4-10) while outscoring them 42-2.

It didn't take long for the Muskies to get going Tuesday as Glowasky opened the scoring 2:48 into the first period when she redirected a centering pass from Reece McQuaker past Broncos' goalie Trista Boulette.

Glowasky then doubled the lead just over eight minutes later when she fired home the rebound of her own shot.

Abbie Kenny then fed Taylor with a crisp pass from behind the net that she promptly fired through the legs of Boulette to make 3-0 after 20 minutes.

Taylor (two) and Glowasky continued their impressive showing in the second with tallies to cap their hat tricks and push it to a six-goal cushion.

Calder then notched her first of the game exactly four minutes into the third when she banged home a loose puck in the crease.

Alex Gartzke made it 8-0 when her blast from the point hit a few Broncos' bodies before finding its way past Boulette at 10:09.

Martina Woods then roofed a shot over Boulette's left arm before Calder notched her second of the night on a 2-on-1 late in the game to cap the scoring.

Isabella Fortes wasn't tested often but was steady when called upon to earn the shutout.

The third-place Muskies resumed NorWOSSA action this afternoon on the road against the second-place St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (11-2) in Kenora.

Then they'll host the last-place Sioux Lookout Warriors (0-13) tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.

The squad then will wrap up the regular season with a make-up home game against those same Warriors on Tuesday (Feb. 12) at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.

It originally was slated for Nov. 23 at the Emo-La Vallee Arena but was postponed due to Sioux Lookout not having enough players.

The Muskie boys' squad, which currently sports a 9-2 record in NorWOSSA play, resumes league action tonight against the third-place Saints (7-5) in Kenora before hitting the road for back-to-back games against the top-ranked Warriors (11-2) in Sioux Lookout.

Then they'll wrap up the regular season by hosting the fifth-place Dryden Eagles (4-8-1-0) on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
