Another fishing tournament culminated in yet another win for Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson.
After claiming a second-straight International Falls Bass Championship title alongside Scott Dingwall last month, Gustafson of Keewatin teamed up with Kenora's Mike Reid to nab the crown at the 23rd-annual “Bassin For Bucks” in Sioux Narrows over the weekend.
The duo garnered an impressive three-day total of 52.04 pounds to top the 115-team field and take home the $6,000 winner's cheque.
Gustafson and Reid also had the big fish of the tournament (a 5.84-pound largemouth caught on Day 2), as well as the biggest bag that same day (21.04).
It was a sweet reward for the duo after finishing third at last year's tourney.
Taking second place were Drew Reese and George Robison, who reeled in a three-day total of 48.41 pounds.
Day 1 leaders Jamie Bruce and Edwin Perrier of Kenora wound up settling for third (48.08) while Alex and Darrell Keszler were fourth (47.98).
After sitting in second on Day 1 with 18.56 pounds, Jason Eerola and Ryan Lentz wound up in fifth (47.59).
Jeff Engstrom and Connor Burton were sixth (47.39) while Darren Neniska and Clay Lajeunesse slipped one spot from last year to seventh (46.95).
Taking eighth spot were Bill and Ken McGhie (46.41), with hometown boys Brian McNanney and Matt Rydberg just behind (45.96).
McNanney and Rydberg were the runners-up at last year's tourney.
Rounding out the top 10 was Terry Gill of Morson and Chad Hanson of Fort Frances (45.91).
Last year's champs, Troy Norman of Fort Frances and Andy Carlson of Emo, finished 12th this time around with a 45.13-pound total.
