Cyclone shine in opener

The local Cyclone swim club racked up 53 medals at the season-opening meet hosted by the Dryden Dolphins over the weekend.

On the boys' side, Gabe Gunderson took home five medals in the age 13-and-up division.

That included gold in the 25m back (21.84) and bronze in each of the 50m back (44.89), 100m back (1:33.15), 50m fly (43.65), and 100m I.M. (1:34.28).

Logan McFayden, meanwhile, garnered medals in eight of his nine events in the same division.

They included gold in the 25m free (15.23), 50m free (32.51), 100m free (1:15.32), 50m back (39.08), 100m back (1:25.90), 50m breast (44.19), and 50m fly (39.62).

McFayden also snared silver in the 100m breast (1:41:59).

Matthew Strain rounded out the boys' contingent with seven medals in the age nine-10 division, including gold in the 200m free (3:18.30), 25m breast (25.80), 50m fly (58.81), and 100m I.M. (1:50.90).

He also nabbed silver in the 50m free (41.65), 100m free (1:36.18), and 50m breast (1:02.63).

On the girls' side, Isabella Avis medalled in each of her events in the age 13-and-up division.

That haul included gold in the 50m free (37.07), 100m free (1:21.93), 200m free (2:55.79), 100m back (1:32.45), 25m breast (21.44), and 100m I.M. (1:32.19).

Avis also earned silver in the 50m breast (48.28), 100m breast (1:43.48), and 50m fly (46.58).

Sarah Rittau also was dominant for the Cyclone in that age group in winning gold in all nine of her events, including the 25m free (15.53), 50m free (31.02), 100m free (1:08.65), 200m free (2:32.91), 50m back (36.45), 100m back (1:18.14), 100m breast (1:28.69), 50m fly (35.19), and 100m I.M. (1:18.94).

Paige McFayden took silver in the 25m free (16.11) while nabbing bronze in the 200m free (2:46.29), 50m breast (44.68), and 100m I.M. (1:24.22).

Mickenna Ryll was the other Cyclone in that age division, snaring gold in the 25m back (21.89).

Abby Bone struck gold in the 25m back (21.03), along with getting silver in the 50m back (43.89) and 100m back (1:36.53), in the age 12 division.

Bone also earned bronze in the 100m breast (1:54.75).

In the age 11 division, Isabelle Meeks snared gold in the 25m free (28.09) while also snagging bronze in the 25m back (28.66) and 25m breast (50.49).

Lynden Peters, meanwhile, earned silver in the 50m breast (59.59) and bronze in the 25m free (20.50).
