Telehealth to include smoking cessation

Ontario is providing more comprehensive services for people who are seeking to quit smoking by transitioning telephone-based smoking cessation services in Ontario from Smokers' Helpline to the Telehealth Ontario platform.

“There's no one-size-fits-all solution for Ontarians looking to quit smoking,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

Cash calendar winners

Joe Georgeson, Bernice Kempf, and Colleen Tibbs of Fort Frances were among the $30 winners in the Rainy River District Mutual Aid Association's cash calendar draw for the week of Sept. 8-14.

They were joined by Rosario Beaudry (Pinewood), Linda and John Esselink (Emo), and Denis Duhamel and Benilda Motilla (Atikokan).

Charges laid in hit-and-run

Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial (OPP) received a traffic complaint of suspicious vehicles at a park situated on the south side of Kenora.

The complaint was reported at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Upon further investigation, police learned that a female pedestrian was struck by one of the All-Terrain Vehicle's (ATV).

Culvert project gets funding

The Off Lake Road culvert in Chapple recently received funding from the provincial government for its replacement.

Local MPP Greg Rickford was at the Chapple Municipal Office on Wednesday to announce close to $120,000 for the culvert replacement.

“Understand that this is a much-needed project for the road,” he said during the announcement.
