Yesterday around 5:50 p.m., the Marathon OPP responded to a motor-vehicle collision at the junction of Peninsula Road (Highway 626) and Highway 17.
A tractor-trailer unit eastbound on Highway 17 was passing two other tractor-trailers that also were eastbound in the lane to turn onto Peninsula Road.
A Jeep Cherokee SUV pulled out from Peninsula Road in front of the eastbound truck-trailer that was passing the two turning ones.
The SUV was struck broadside, pushing it to rest in the westbound ditch of Highway 17.
The single occupant of the tractor-trailer sustained no injuries.
The lone occupant of the SUV, Natalie Gravelle, 42, of Marathon, was transported to a local hospital by EMS, where she was pronounced dead.
The highway was closed for about an hour, then open to one lane for about eight hours, while the OPP's Technical Traffic Collision Investigation unit conducted its investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
