The Muskie boys’ hockey team has got its bite back.
After three-straight wins at a weekend tournament in Morden, Man., the black-and-gold carried that momentum into Kenora on Tuesday night as they beat the Broncos 6-4 to even their NorWOSSA record at 1-1.
“We played well and took it to them, but had trouble putting the puck in the net,” Muskie head coach Shawn Jourdain noted despite the six goals on the scoreboard.
“We had a lot of chances, played a lot in their zone and cycled the puck well, but we missed a lot of nets and could’ve had a few more.”

Getting pucks past Ryan Faragher of late has been about as difficult a task as convincing kids that broccoli is good for them.
Faragher is stopping nearly everything lately, and has been a huge key to the Fort Frances Jr. Sabres’ success of late. He recorded his second shutout of the season Nov. 7 against the visiting Thunder Bay Bearcats, turning aside 34 shots while backstopping the Sabres to a 4-0 victory.

Colton Kennedy is playing closer to home and back in the SIJHL after a tough stint in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
A win-win situation as far as the 20-year-old Kenora native is concerned.
The Fort Frances Jr. Sabres acquired Kennedy from the Winnipeg South Blues in exchange for defenceman Kyle Friesen, who played only two games with the local squad before being sent packing.
“I’m excited. I’ve been at home for a month not playing so it’s good to get back out here,” Kennedy said after Monday morning’s practice at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association is hosting a PeeWee ‘A’ tournament this weekend at the Memorial Sports Centre.
Four teams from the local house league will host two Emo squads, one from Kenora, and four from Thunder Bay.
“We should be competitive [though] it’s kind of an unknown,” said Milt Strachan, a local PeeWee coach and one of the tournament organizers.
“Thunder Bay is a surprise until we play them, but last year our PeeWees were right on par with Thunder Bay, so I assume we should be again,” added Strachan.

This past weekend, 10 members of the Sunset Country Squash Club participated in a tournament at the Winnipeg Winter Club with mixed results.
There is a new rally point system where every point counts (serving or not) to 11, making you focus on both serving and receiving the ball.
In the Junior division, which featured a combined field of those 14 and under, 11-year-old Anika Alexander defeated all challengers en route to the championship.
Sabres talking trade with Port Hope for Miller
| By editorial Wednesday, 12 November 2008 - 2:41pm. |
The Fort Frances Jr. Sabres are hoping to lure a big fish back to his hometown.
Former Muskie Tyler Miller, currently leading the Port Hope Predators of the Ontario Provincial Junior ‘A’ Hockey League with 43 points in just 22 games, is looking for an opportunity to win a championship ring in his final year of junior eligibility.
His current team has had its injury problems, and probably is considered a long shot to make it out of the competitive OPJHL for a shot at the Dudley Hewitt Cup.
