A winning race weekend for Strachan

It was a dominant weekend of racing for Emo's Brody Strachan.

After claiming the checkered flag once again in the WISSOTA Modifieds division in Borderland Racing Association action on Saturday night at the Emo Speedway, he followed that up with another win in the same division the following day at the Lake of the Woods Speedway in Kenora.

Strachan roars to sixth feature win

Brody Strachan is having a season to remember in the WISSOTA Modifieds division.

And by the way it's looking, a fourth-straight points title is almost a forgone conclusion for the Emo native.

Strachan cruised to his division-leading sixth feature win of the season in Borderland Racing Association action on Saturday night at the Emo Speedway.

Taking off

Troy Norman of Fort Frances and Jay Samsal of Kenora blasted down Rainy Lake this morning as part of the Day 1 boat launch that kicked off the 25th-annual Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship at the Sorting Gap Marina. The 2016 and 2017 champs are part of a 98-team field that will be vying for the $25,000 winners' cheque over the next three days. Weigh-ins go at 3:30 p.m.

Stock cars, go-karts washed out

Borderland Racing Association and Borderland Kart Racing action were both a no go over the weekend.

Heavy rainfall last week caused the infield of the Emo Speedway to take on too much water and it couldn't be drained quick enough in order for the races to go ahead.

But despite that, local racers were still able to get into races at other speedways over the weekend.

Jodoin lifts CJ to win over Centra

Ian Jodoin was a one-man wrecking crew for CJ Contracting on Monday night.

Jodoin tallied twice to lift CJ to a 2-1 win over Centra Pipelines in Borderland Soccer League men's division action at the St. Francis Sports Field.

Knotted at 1-1 in the second half, Jodoin blasted a laser from distance past Centra keeper Gavin Richardson to put home the winner.

Redford powers Angels past Babes

Rylee Redford stepped right up when her team needed her the most.

The Angels' ace did what she needed to on the mound and clubbed a pair of homers—including a grand slam—to pace her team to a 15-11 win over the Red Gut Babes in Rainy River District Women's Fastball League action on Monday night at the St. Francis Sports Field.

Internet down at library

An internet outage at the Fort Frances Public Library has continued into its third day.

The library has been without an internet connection since Tuesday, when a truck doing work in the area pulled down their service cable.

The outage has affected all computers at the library, meaning anyone looking to access any of the library's internet services will be unable to connect.

Raiders hold off Her-icanes

They clawed away but just couldn't muster up quite enough offence in the end.

The Fort Frances Her-icanes fought valiantly but an early 6-0 deficit was just too much to overcome as they dropped a 10-8 decision to the Couchiching Raiders in Rainy River District Women's Fastball League action on Monday night at VanJura.
