Lakers go winless in pre-season

Any panic buttons in Wayne Strachan's office remain unpushed at the present time.

The head coach and general manager of the Fort Frances Lakers wasn't about to get all worked up over an 0-3-0-1 record in the SIJHL pre-season, which ended with the Lakers dropping both ends of a home-and-home series against the English River Miners over the weekend.

Setting up play

The rest of Hayden Haw's teammates on the Rainy River Owls anxiously anticipated his oncoming set during the first set of the Owls' 3-0 loss to the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas Saints in NorWOSSA junior boys' volleyball action Monday.

Stuffing defence

Katelyn Brown of the Rainy River Owls (25) wasn't about to give Alyssa Turcotte of the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints an open look at the basket during the visitors' 33-11 victory in NorWOSSA 'A' junior girls' basketball action Monday afternoon at RRHS. See story on C4.

Fingertip grab

Muskie receiver Riley Argue looked to have a clean catch on this play but actually grabbed the ball on the bounce for an incompletion in the fourth quarter of Fort High's 36-0 loss to the Kenora Broncos in WHSFL action here Friday afternoon.
