Riverside Health Care will hold its next open board meeting today (Jan. 24) at 6 p.m. in the boardroom at La Verendrye Hospital.

“Kids & Company" presents Geronimo Stilton ("Mouse in Space”) today (Jan. 24) at 6:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre. Advance tickets cost $10.50 (available online at www.kidsandco.ca) or $12 at the door (children three and under are free). For more info, call Tara at 271-0320.

The Legion Ladies' Auxiliary will hold its monthly supper—this time featuring cutlets and all the trimmings—on Friday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30). Admission is $16/plate, with take-outs available by calling 274-3772. A 50/50 draw also will be held. A reminder the lift is now in proper working order.

The Fort Frances Lakers will host the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in SIJHL action on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. It also is “Military Appreciation Night.” Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for students, and $5 for kids 12 and under, with those under five being free.

The St. Mary's Youth Group will host a bake sale—featuring everything from sticky buns to cookies—on Sunday, Jan. 27 from noon-2 p.m. at the parish hall.

A “Coffee Break” fundraiser for the local Alzheimer Society will be held Monday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Golden Age Manor in Emo. Mary O'Connor, client services co-ordinator, will be the guest speaker.

Town council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 28 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

A presentation on how to make the most of a visit with someone who has dementia, sponsored by the local Alzheimer Society, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau (old CN station).

“Suicide Alertness for Everyone,” presented by the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, will be offered in two sessions on Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the NCDS office (304 Scott St.) The sessions are free but pre-registration is required by contacting Charlene Strain at 274-2347 ext. 207.

“The Adventures of Rabbit and Bear Paw," a puppet show with Chad Solomon and sponsored by the "Friends of the Library,” will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Come for the family-friendly show and pizza.

The Muskie boys' hockey team will host the International Falls Broncos in exhibition action on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. The team also will honour the memory of Barney Maher and salute the contributions of Bob Miller. Admission is $7 for adults and $2 for students, with those under 12 being free (season tickets apply).

“Fibre Content,” a travelling exhibit featuring award-winning artwork created from textiles, will be in the main floor gallery of the Fort Frances Museum beginning Feb. 1 and running through March.

Comic stunt juggler Tuey Wilson will perform on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Backus Auditorium in International Falls (doors open at 6:30). Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children (U.S. funds), with those under five being free. Tickets are available at Betty's here, as well as at City Drug and Backus in the Falls, and at the door.

The annual “Forget Me Not” dinner, hosted by the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts, will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 at La Place Rendez-Vous, with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6. It also will feature live entertainment. Tickets cost $50 each or $400 for a table of eight, which includes a $25 charitable receipt, which are available at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts or by calling toll-free 1-800-682-0245. Fort Frances girls' hockey “Radio Bingo" will hold a "Monster Bingo”—featuring $5,000 in total prizes—on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. on B•93 The Border. Buy 9-Ups for $20, which are available at various locations around town and in the district.

A capote-making workshop, with instructors Caren Fagerdahl and Jane Trivers, will be held Feb. 16 and 23 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Seven Generations Education Institute (lunch provided). The $45 base price covers sewing materials but participants still need to buy a blanket (prices vary). For more info or to register, call Laura at 274-7891. The Craft Club for Kids runs every Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Create something fun to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult for this free activity.
